RESIDENTS objecting to a proposed Poole waterfront development had their say at a protest exhibition on Wednesday night.
The redesign by Neptune Consultants of their West Quay development, has failed to win over many of the protesters who labelled it a “carbuncle”.
Their £100million, between-the-bridges proposal is for 373 apartments in six sections, with one a landmark 12 storey high building with a roof-garden, commercial and office space.
The developers stand by their new design, which was re-thought after criticism from the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment and residents, and held a public exhibition last week.
The Vision for Poole Group, made up of the Society of Poole Men, Poole Old Town Conservation group, Poole CPRE and Hamside Residents Association, held their own consultation exercise at St James Church hall to find out residents views.
Fred Winwood, chairman of Hamside Residents Association said: “We want people to be well and accurately informed as to what it means and for them to be able to make meaningful comments.”
Forms filled in will join the 100 or so collected at Hamworthy Park fete and those from a similar exercise at the Georgian Fair in the old town to be presented to Borough of Poole planners.
Since the first application was registered in 2010 it has attracted 524 documents and comments on the council’s planning website.
“There is an interest. People are keen to see what happens and have things explained to them,” said Mr Winwood.
Neptune Consultants project manager James Leonard said they had responded to the comments and come up with a contemporary scheme. “It was always intended to be a high quality, contemporary regeneration of this site,” he said.
