I'm not really sure what's going on with the weather at the moment, but I seem to be one of the only people that is slightly concerned about the weird year we've had so far!
I'm usually the person that insists we still had a good summer, but this year has been pretty miserable.
There was some lovely hot weather, just not in the right places; for me it was noticeable that I didn't get to wear my usual summer kit on the bike and out running and I didn't have the really warm mornings or hot evenings that I've been used to.
Now we're nearly in November and it's still mild; at this time of year I am usually expecting to be digging out the winter gear and 'winterising' the bike with mudguards.
I'm still having to judge carefully with the clothing to make sure that I'm warm enough in the mornings but don't overheat on the way home and the mudguards are just sat still waiting to be fitted.
It probably sounds like I'm complaining and I think I am! I really don't like windy weather and although I don’t really mind wet weather I prefer it dry, but I do like the cold weather!
I actually enjoy having to wrap up warm and getting out when the temperature plummets. I think this may be partly down to the peace and quiet as there are very few people around compared to the summer and this just makes things more pleasant.
An icy cold promenade is a lovely place to be on a winters morning as the Sun is rising over the Isle of Wight and being winter it means you don't even have to get up that early to experience it!
The clocks go back this weekend and that means it's going to be lighter in the mornings and obviously much darker in the evenings. I would like to remind people that you really do need lights!
I've been using them in the mornings for a few weeks already and it does amaze me that there are some cyclists out there who aren't using them at all. I can't understand why you would venture out on the roads without some form of lighting to ensure that you don't get run over!
You can buy a reasonable set of lights for very little money so there really is no excuse, we would all be very quick to criticise car drivers for not using lights so get some!
