SHE is a rising star who has been nominated for a Brit award and is currently selling out venues around the country.

But once critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Rumer’s national tour finishes, she is returning to her Hampshire roots for a very special concert.

The star, whose debut album Seasons Of My Soul has sold more than half a million copies worldwide and reached number three in the UK charts, has agreed to play a one-off gig to raise cash for New Milton Memorial Centre.

Just 300 tickets are being made available for the homecoming concert on December 7, including some which provide the chance to meet the singer after the show.

Pakistan-born Rumer, whose real name is Sarah Joyce, lived in the New Forest for several years before moving to London to pursue her career.

After the release of her album last November, she was named best alternative act at this year’s UK Asian Music Awards.

The gig has been organised by Common Ground, the team behind this year’s first Community Festival.

Jemma Saunders, from the organisation, said it is a massive coup to have such a big name star supporting the cause of the memorial centre.

She said: “It’s huge. We’re expecting there to be a big demand.

“We organised the Community Festival in the summer and profiled lots of local bands, but this is such a high profile event, it’s fantastic.

“She’s coming off quite a major national tour, but she’s giving up her time to come and do this for us.

“When she was younger she lived in the area and worked in a pub in New Milton, and still has connections here and is keen to support us.

“She’s been absolutely fantastic, and so accommodating in helping us out and arranging everything.

Proceeds from the gig will go towards upkeep costs of the Whitefield Road centre.

Tickets, which cost between £15 and £30, go on sale on tomorrow, through Forest Arts Centre in New Milton, but only at certain times.

They can be bought in person from the centre or by calling 01425 612393 during the following times: Wednesday: 3pm-8pm, Thursday: 10am-1pm, Friday: 10am-1pm and Saturday: all day.
