Dr Peter Carter, Chief Executive & General Secretary of the Royal College of Nursing, spoke at a study day specifically for Health Care Assistants yesterday morning. Dr Carter spoke at the event in the morning and then visited the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH) where he spoke to frontline nurses.
During his visit to RBH, Dr Carter met the Trust’s new Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Paula Shobbrook and visited various wards/units including the brand new, purpose built Stroke Unit.
Associate Director of Operations, BJ Waltho, said: “We were privileged to have Dr Carter as the keynote speaker at the RCN study day and also to follow that with a visit to the hospital.
“We are very proud of our hospital and the work carried out by our nurses and this gave us the opportunity to showcase this.”
Dr Peter Carter, said: “When I visited the stroke unit there was a really positive attitude from the staff, which bodes well for the future.
“Part of my role means I visit many hospitals around the country and I sometimes express real concern, but not at Bournemouth – I can really compare and know that the people of Bournemouth and surrounding area should feel very proud.”
Over 100 delegates attended the study day where Dr Carter spoke about the important role Health Care Assistants play in the care of patients. The study day, solely for Heath Care Assistants, was held at AFC Bournemouth and was fully booked.
