A RECRUITMENT drive has been launched by the Friends of Swanage Pier organisation, in a bid to ensure the historic pier continues to remain a focal point in the town.

The pier is owned and operated by an independent charity, funded by voluntary donations and supported by the Friends of Swanage Pier group, which was formed in 1995.

Now, to mark the group’s 17th anniversary, the call is out for new members to stand up and be counted.

Spokesman Sarah Parr said: “Swanage Pier retains a very special place in the hearts of residents and visitors but it is amazing how many people don’t know about our membership scheme.

“This appeal is being launched to boost funds and try to involve the local community more.

“Apart from the fantastic membership benefits, being a friend of Swanage Pier offers a unique opportunity to help secure the pier’s future for generations to come.”

By paying £10 to become a friend of the pier, members get free annual strolling passes and regular newsletters detailing the latest renovation works and special events.
