TWO coaches full of AFC Bournemouth fans were attacked after Cherries’ away match at Chesterfield on Friday.

No one was injured, but one coach’s window was smashed when a brick was thrown at it.

Kathy Tilbury, MD of Excelsior coaches, which provides supporter transport for the club, said: “We had six coaches at Chesterfield. The outer glass in a window of one of the coaches was broken and there was brick dust on another.

“This is the unpleasant side of the game that should be eradicated in football.”

Fan Brennan Joyce, 19, from Poole, said: “As we were leaving Chesterfield, we pulled up at some traffic lights and moments later heard a big thud.

Club chairman Eddie Mitchell said: “It’s something which doesn’t help football in this country at all. I thought that sort of thing went out with the 70s.”

Chesterfield said they were not alerted to the coach incident at the time but stadium manager Colin Nellist said there had been an altercation after the final whistle, when a “small group” of Cherries fans kicked seats and advertising hoardings.
