THE executive head of Portchester School has paid a moving tribute to 16-year-old pupil Kyle Rees, who died on Tuesday after being injured during an incident the previous day.
Debbie Godfrey-Phaure, voice breaking with emotion, told reporters: “Kyle was a lovely, lovely boy. Tributes have been written by all of those who knew him and show just how much he was loved here.
“No words can reflect the huge gap he leaves and the extent to which he’ll be missed. He’ll be remembered by everyone here for many, many things – not least his cheeky smile and his ability to make you laugh out loud.”
The head revealed that books of condolence and memory boards had been set up at both Portchester and Avonbourne Schools, and that there were plans to hold a memorial service next week.
“We are utterly and completely devastated by this tragedy but will do all we possibly can to make sure Kyle’s memory is revered and respected as he so completely deserves,” she added.
The police cordon at the school has been taken down and tributes continue to be added to the 30ft long pile of flowers, messages and drawings.
A post-mortem examination was carried out yesterday and the inquest into Kyle’s death is to be formally opened tomorrow at 11am.
