A two-year project to survey alleys and lanes across Poole has resulted in a useful town walking map.
The Rotary Club of Poole Bay identified 185 rights of way across the town centre and old town areas.
Members have now produced a map with a circular walk taking in many of the historic alleys in the Rotary 5 Quays Walk.
Although president Donald Nut pointed out: “It’s really four quays and the Fisherman’s Dock.”
The maps have been going like hot-cakes with 1,250 given out at the Mayor’s community weekend celebrating the Twin Sails Bridge.
“We wanted to do something to highlight the existence of the alleys and paths around the town that people can use,” he said.
The suggested walking route, which features many Poole attractions, should take around one-and-a-half hours. And it will change as redevelopment of the waterside takes place.
“A lot of them have disappeared in the last 100 years,” he said but others appear, such as ones at the Baiter development and Barber’s Gate.
