SOMETIMES grand plans are devised that prompt powerful reactions from fury to jubilation.
Then they disappear into the vapour and nothing more is heard of them.
Sometimes, too, bold ideas come to fruition.
For many years, Poole’s plans for a new bridge kept on bubbling on without it ever seeming likely that one would eventually be built.
Well now it has. And thank heavens.
Not only has Poole got a fine-looking new bridge that enhances the skyline but it has a structure that should ease traffic congestion and be a catalyst for investment in the town.
Today and on Monday, the town is celebrating its £37m spanner with events ranging from musical celebrations to a flotilla of craft.
These are days that will be remembered in history, enjoyed in the present and are key to a vibrant future.
Or will be the key soon... when it’s finally open to traffic.
