Poole’s Harbour Challenge Outdoor Education Centre, based on Brownsea Island, has received some useful funding.
Grants from Sport England and the Borough of Poole’s Aiming High for Disabled Children’s fund will be used to help women take up kayaking and disabled children take part in sailing, kayaking and archery.
Harbour Challenge is introducing a women only club on Saturday mornings through the summer, starting with a mother and daughter’s day with free taster sessions on April 21. Booking is essential.
The club will continue each Saturday from April 28 with a cost of £10 per person per session.
Disabled youngsters aged eight to 18 are invited to join the established summer club which runs on Saturdays from April 14, costing £7.50 per person per session, as Harbour Challenge will fund half of the £15 cost.
There will be an open day at the end of the season. For sailing and kayaking participants need to be able to walk due to travel restrictions on Brownsea Island, however archery takes place on the mainland and those in wheelchairs are encouraged to attend.
