So Bournemouth has lost out in its bid to become a city.
That honour goes to Chelmsford, proving indeed that the only way is Essex.
But from the comments we have received it appears most people are not too downhearted by the result.
We can console ourselves with having the best beach in the UK.
Our town centre gardens are very special.
Our hotels top notch. We have fine entertainment venues. The nightlife is excellent and our shopping areas offer an abundance of riches.
One resident suggested that people visit Bournemouth to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and that was one of its attractions.
The observation is spot-on. Think of a city and the downside is crammed streets, pollution, and sometimes sky-high prices.
All things we would not want associated with Bournemouth.
