CALLS have been made for Bournemouth council and Mouchel to be more upfront in publishing their green targets – and revealing whether or not they are meeting them.

The £180m deal, which has seen six council departments and more than 400 staff transferred to the private company, included promises that the partnership would create a ‘green knowledge economy’ in the town, including the development of a Carbon Management Centre of Excellence.

The contract, released to the Echo following a Freedom of Information request, is heavily redacted making it difficult to monitor whether Mouchel is actually hitting its green targets.

But the council has admitted that the requirement for Mouchel to build a permanent showcase for the Carbon Management Centre of Excellence within the BIC by December 2011 has been officially dropped.

The aim of this was to provide a walk-in centre enabling members of the public to see first-hand the benefits of the Carbon Management Centre.

In a statement, the council said they and Mouchel were committed to developing the ‘green knowledge economy’ in Bournemouth and had launched the Carbon Management Centre of Excellence last October.

They said they were now developing the business model and working to generate investment for the centre.
