AN RSPCA employee is taking a leap for the good cause and taking part in a charity skydive to raise some much-needed cash.
Emma Slyfield, 22, an animal care assistant, will do the tandem skydive in May, as part of staff efforts to raise money individually.
Also jumping is Emma’s friend, Georgie Newman, 24.
She said: “It’s something quite scary that I’ve always wanted to do, even though I did it four years ago for a different charity, and it should hopefully raise a lot of money.
“I’ve already raised £250, but I’m looking to raise around £1,000 in all.
“It would mean an awful lot to the centre, as RSPCA are really struggling at the moment.
“We have animal court fees which cost around £25,000, on top of food, healthcare and veterinary fees.
“When we take a cat in, it costs us around £150 to vaccinate it, de-flea it, get it healthy and spay it.
“Whereas we only charge £60 for someone to then adopt it, so this certainly isn’t a way to make money from the animals, as we lose a lot with each one.
“RSPCA are self-funding so it needs something like this to help the cause. Each of us is supposed to raise around £60 every year, so this is a bit more, but it’s worth it.”
