BOOK sales in Poole High Street’s Red Cross shop have been so successful that an extra set of shelves had to be added to the display.
“Since the refit last week, we sold more than £100 worth of books on Wednesday and the same again on Thursday,” said shop manager Karen Brown.
Book volunteer Judith Proctor said they had received some high quality volumes to sell.
“In the last year, we’ve sold an early edition of Andersen’s Fairy Stories for £100, a fourth series Giles annual for £80 and a number of other valuable books in the £10-£40 price range.
“We’ve also raised more than £200 from a great collection of local history books we were donated last month, and we’ve just been given a large collection of books on military history,” she said.
The bulk of sales are paperback fiction at £1.50 each and the success of the book section means the Red Cross is seeking more volunteers to help raise money for those in need and ensure customers get a bargain.
