TWO contractors rushed to the aid of a pregnant woman when fire broke out in her Bournemouth home.
Ricky Jacobs and Luke Sellwood removed fuses in the house in a bid to stop the fire spreading further.
They also gave a T-shirt to a toddler who left the house half-dressed.
The woman walked out of her home in Swansbury Drive, Townsend, at about 10.30am yesterday and told the men her tumble dryer was on fire.
“She seemed really stressed so we did everything we could to help. Luckily, we were next door doing a bathroom refurbishment – it could have been a lot worse,” said Ricky, 24.
He and Luke, also 24, were working for Spectrum Property Care.
Dorset Fire and Rescue sent crews from Christchurch, Springbourne and Redhill Park and ambulances also attended as a precaution.
The fire was extinguished using hose reel jets, main lines and four sets of breathing apparatus.
The Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Service was also in attendance to provide support to the residents of the house.
The fire in the downstairs utility room led to severe smoke damage throughout the home.
Nearby resident Carole Wooliscroft said: “There was a very strong smell of smoke and when I looked I could see smoke billowing out of the windows. Hopefully, no one was hurt.”
The fire was under control by 11am.
