FIREFIGHTERS have joined forces with harbour commissioners in a bid to safeguard Poole’s five islands.
Under this new partnership, Poole Harbour Commissioners have agreed to ship firefighters and their equipment to any Poole Harbour island in the event of an emergency.
In return, Dorset Fire and Rescue Service will give commission staff emergency fire training.
Firefighter John Powell said: “This agreement will ensure a fast and efficient response to an incident on any of the islands in Poole Harbour.
“This agreement has allowed us to make all those who live, work and visit the islands safer.”
Brownsea, Furzey, Round, Green and Long Island will be covered under the agreement.
Poole Harbour Master Captain Brian Murphy said: “We are delighted to be providing this vital waterborne resource.”
