SPONSORS are being sought for this year’s Burton Armed Forces parade in the summer.
The event will take place on Sunday June 10 and for this year it has been renamed Burton Armed Forces Jubilee Day in honour of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Arrangements are well underway for the event and will include the traditional parade around the village.
Judy Jamieson, chairman of Burton Parish Council said organisers are hoping as ever that they will be joined by members of the armed forces.
She added: “We are seeking sponsorship for the event as always and if any local businesses would like to help, they can contact me.
“We are looking forward to another glorious day and are keeping our fingers crossed for some lovely weather.
“We’ve got Anthony Adams, the brilliant Frank Sinatra tribute act, entertaining us after the parade and ceremony.
“We hope lots of people from the village as well as around Christchurch can join us for the special event to say thank you to the veterans and serving personnel that we are so proud of.”
This year will be the fifth event to be held in Burton and was originally organised to send a message of support to troops who were fighting abroad.
In the past, Christchurch Royal British Legion band has led the parade, which after marching around the village, comes to a standstill on the village green in Salisbury Road.
From there a drumhead service usually takes place.
Members of the Gurkha Regiment have in the past attended.
Refreshments and entertainment will take place after the event.
