RINGWOOD man Matt Mellor will be stepping out next month to take part in the 2012 London Marathon.
The 36-year-old, of Willow Drive, will be running the 26-mile course in aid of Livability for Victoria Education Centre and Sports College’s Sparkle appeal.
The Sparkle appeal aims to raise £4million for a new state-of-the-art hydrotherapy pool and therapy centre for the Dorset school’s disabled students who are aged between four and 19 years old.
Matt says he has been busy training for the marathon on Sunday April 22 and is mixing long runs with other sports.
He added: “I decided to run the marathon because it was a great way to challenge myself and also because I wanted to fundraise for the Sparkle Appeal. “I have several friends who work at Victoria School so it was a natural step to raise for the children, some of whom I have met and all of whom deserve the support.”
Matt said he was encouraged to run the marathon after watching his sister-in-law train and complete the Nottingham Marathon in less than five hours, raising £15,000 for her local hospital’s baby unit.
