IDEAS are being sought for a possible new use for the boat store at Mayor’s Mead car park near Christchurch Quay.
Community and business members are being urged to come forward with proposals for using the 184 square metre building on a rentable basis. The council is considering demolishing the building and extending the car park but wants to give local people the chance to come up with ideas first.
The single-storey building sits on a 630 square metre site but potential users have been warned there are limitations to its use.
“There are a number of constraints on the building, including the fact that it sits within a flood-risk zone, but it’s in a good location and it may provide a viable income for someone,” said Ashley Harman, property and engineering services manager at Christchurch council. “We’ve put together some documents and would be happy to show anyone interested around the building. All proposals will be considered and preferred options put forward to the council’s resources committee.”
