DOG muck vigilantes have been circling the offending mess in Pokesdown and writing messages to the owners.
The team of three use carry around chalk to highlight street fouling and scrawl messages like ‘Disgusting!’ and ‘Clean It Up!’ One member told the Echo: “It seems to be having an effect – the problem has been getting better.
“And it also warns pedestrians not to step in it.”
The trio carry their chalk with them during their daily routines, rather than going out looking especially for dog muck.
They started in February and residents could frequently see chalk circles on the street corners.
The group have not given themselves a name but just said the idea came up because they felt the problem was so bad.”
The member asked to remain anonymous because they were afraid of any retribution from dog owners, though they have never had any confrontations.
The member told the Echo: “It’s not very pleasant to kneel down and do it, but I feel it’s my responsibility.
The Pokesdown South Resident’s Association had asked the council for a camera car but could not get one.
