THE East Dorset Coroner is trying to trace the family of Henry Alfred Special-Brew who was found dead at his home on Tuesday March 20.
The 71-year-old was known as Henry Alfred Hind until he changed his name by deed poll two decades ago after pals ribbed him so much about how much he loved the extra strong beer.
In 1992 he told the Daily Echo how he had paid £35 for one of the most unique surnames in the world.
The plasterer said: “Special Brew is my favourite tipple; my fridge is always full of it.
“My mates reckon I like it on my cornflakes in the morning.”
He said his unusual surname only became a problem when he tried to book a taxi or a table in a restaurant because no one believed who he was.
Henry’s bank also found the name change hard to swallow.
His branch refused to issue a cheque book in the name of Mr Special Brew and then informed him they were closing his account.
Coroner’s officer Dave Tong said: “I need to find Alfie’s next of kin so I can finalise my enquiries on behalf of the Coroner.
“I understand that Alfie had lived in the Bournemouth area for a number of years.
Anyone with information on Mr Special-Brew’s descendants can contact Mr Tong on 01202 789353.
