YOU read about it, hear it on the radio and see it on the telly. Then suddenly it hits home.
Afghanistan isn’t something that’s just happening a long way away but a grim war that impacts directly on our community.
Today we mourn the death of Sergeant Luke Taylor, a brave Bournemouth man who has given his life for his country. Our country.
Such tragic news stuns everyone. Tributes from his colleagues make it clear to all what an inspirational man he was, a true friend, a “hoofing mate” who lived life to the full, a “lovely, genuine bloke” and a loyal man with a great sense of humour.
The thoughts of every one of us are with his wife, Nicola, their young son, and all those who are close to him who must come to terms with a piercing loss.
We can only give our thanks for his and their sacrifice.
And salute a local lad who died a hero.
