Step up for Nature and join in our Big Wild Stocktake at Arne or Radipole Lake this Easter weekend.
These nature reserves are some of the most bio-diverse sites in Britain and, with the aid of our Stocktake booklet, you’ll be able to identify plants, mammals, birds or creepy crawlies.
You don’t need to be an expert to join in as roving volunteer wardens will be on hand throughout the day.
There will also be reptile ‘show and tells’ at both sites and identification books available for hire.
Last year around 100 people joined in at the Radipole Lake event alone and between them, identified more than 120 different species.
This made it an incredibly useful event for us, giving us a snapshot of what was around on the reserve at the time and, almost as importantly, what wasn’t. It showed us which birds had arrived safely from their wintering grounds in Africa, which plants were in flower and which insects were already emerging.
As our Weymouth Wetlands information officer Luke Phillips said ‘Above all, everyone really enjoyed themselves last year, with lots of people of all ages and levels of interest and knowledge joining in.’
You can join in the Big Wild Stocktake by dropping in anytime between 9.30am - 4.00pm at Arne on Saturday 7th April or at Radipole Lake on Sunday 8th April or both.
For more information visit the Events page from our website www.rspb.org.uk.
Whether you’re a beginner or consider yourself to be a budding Chris Packham, the Big Wild Stocktake caters for all. In addition everyone who takes part will be added to a draw and could win a trip on a Dorset bird boat.
Don’t stay indoors this Easter, step up for nature!
