A GROUP that first got together at Brockenhurst College is due to appear on a new national TV talent show at the weekend.
Junk, four young men who sing and play musical instruments made from recycled materials, will be on Sky 1’s Don’t Stop the Music at 8pm on Sunday.
The show gives acts 100 seconds to prove themselves, but if they fail to keep the audience happy, they can be ejected from the stage at any time. The winner of each show receives £25,000.
Sam McGowan, Jake Briggs, Jay Osborne and Russell Brooks all studied performing arts at Brock from 2005-7 and developed their current act out of a college dance assignment, which earned them a distinction.
Originally called Brockenbeat, they have previously performed on television’s Dancing on Ice and were runners up on Talentcall at the Pavilion three years ago.
Last year they auditioned for ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent, but despite making it through to the final 50, their act was never broadcast.
Sam said: “The Sky show was so much more fun. It came about through a group we did Britain’s Got Talent with. They told us there was another show going on. We emailed and within two weeks we were asked to go and film it.”
At the moment Sam, Jay and Russell, who all live in the Fordingbridge area, are working part-time at the Sandy Balls holiday centre while Jake, of Bournemouth, is unemployed.
The quartet are looking forward to a six week summer season at the North Pier Theatre in Blackpool and a national tour – their nearest local gig will be in Ferndown.
