Rev John Wood took a leap of faith when he abseiled 100 feet down his church.
With beautiful clear blue skies and stunning, far reaching views from the top of St Mary’s Church tower, Swanage, the leap year date of February 29 provided the perfect excuse for Rev Wood to take a ‘leap of faith’ to raise money for the Christian Aid Dorset Coast Abseil.
Church Verger, Chris Phillips was there to see the abseil. “The worst bit for John was before going over the edge at the beginning,” he said.
Chris told me. “He admitted to me afterwards to being a little frightened then as he stepped over the parapet. But after that, he said coming down the tower was no problem.”
Rev Wood said, “It was a brilliant day – there was such a buzz around St Mary’s right through the afternoon and so many spectators, young and old. “I’m delighted to have been able to support Christian Aid in this way and know that every penny raised will make a real difference to those in need.”
