PLANS to make phone users dial the area code even when making a local call have been slammed as disruptive.
Ofcom says it will have to require phone users in Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch phone to dial the 01202 code before local numbers from November 1 in order to allow space for new numbers in future.
It says it has been in discussion with Bournemouth Council for advice on the best ways to let residents and businesses know of the changes.
But Bournemouth councillor Barry Goldbart responded: “I must say that I did not think that this suggestion would be carried forward as it is so disruptive to all businesses and residents.”
Cllr Ron Whittaker echoed Cllr Goldbart’s comments.
