FIRE crews battled a cliff top fire that destroyed 500 square metres of gorse bank in Canford Cliffs on Saturday night.
Crews were alerted at 8.15pm by numerous calls from the public.
Westbourne and Springbourne sent fire engines but they quickly called for help from four more crews, a water carrier and two aerial ladders.
The firefighters gained access to the blaze through Cliff Drive and Shore Road.
The flames spread quickly due to gusting winds and the 40 firefighters used 10 water jets to get it under control by 10.05pm.
A Dorset Fire and Rescue spokesman said the cause was a stray firework.
