LAURA Marie Cribb also wrote a fascinating hand-written account of her experience, written shortly after the disaster and sent to her family.
Entitled ‘My Experiences on the RMS Titanic’ it began by detailing the moment the ship hit the iceberg, told of the evacuation, the separation from her father, the boarding and lowering of the lifeboat and the “thunderous” explosion of the boilers followed by the “most terrible shrieks and groans from the helpless and doomed passengers who were left on the wreck of the great ship.”
It also refers to the sighting of the Carpathia... and the realisation her father did not survive...
Recollections written by Laura, along with other items of hers including a drawing of the Titanic, sold at Christie’s auction in New York five years ago.
