STAFF, volunteers and fundraisers who go the extra mile were honoured at Poole Hospital’s annual awards evening.
A record number of nominations were received, some of the most poignant from patients and their relatives.
Those recognised ranged from a cleaner and doctor, to midwives and a secretary.
Rebecca Miln, a student nurse from Bournemouth University, was named as the individual winner for patient care after being nominated by a patient’s windower.
Sandbanks Ward, which cares for patients with cancer, won the team award for patient care.
Ward sister Jackie Spendlowe said: “We are all extremely proud – everyone tries to go that extra mile, and involve not just the patients in their care, but their families too.
“We all work together – from the housekeeper to the medical staff – to make sure our patients and their loved ones all receive the best care and attention possible.”
Other recipients included 12-year-old, Tanya Broome, who set up the Preemie Babies charity, which raised nearly £5,000 for the hospital’s neonatal unit.
The awards, presented at The Haven Hotel, Sandbanks, were sponsored by local engineering firm Meggitt. Fundraising cancer patients the Harbour Girls Support Group also picked up an award for their efforts.
Meggitt Bursary Awards went to respiratory nurse specialist Lynne Clayton and the brachytherapy team, and the chairman’s award went to divisional director for medicine Gill Christian.
