TWO Poole sisters have raised more than £1,460 to help hospital patients with kidney problems.
Karley, 25, and Kirsty Jones, 23, held a disco and raffle to collect the sum in memory of their grandfather David Hedgecock.
Mr Hedgecock was a patient at Dorset County Hospital’s renal unit for nine years, and collected funds for the unit himself baking cakes and donating raffle prizes.
Parkstone resident Karley said: “The unit already gave him another couple of years and we wanted to give something back that’s why we did it.
“It’s a great buzz to think so many people have been so kind and helped us to raise so much money.
“He raised a lot of money for the hospital and I wanted it to live on in myself.”
Mr Hedgecock had a stroke last year and stayed in the hospital for 10 weeks.
He went home for two weeks before going back in, and sadly died from renal failure last November.
“They were amazing,” Karley added.
“They knew it was end of life care and wanted to make sure he was comfortable and happy.
“It was like a second home to him. They were brilliant.”
