GET ready for baking as a new event is brought to Christchurch Food Festival for 2012.
This year’s festival is launching The Great Christchurch Bake Day and Fete.
Taking the initiative from BBC’s The Great British Bake Off, the event on Saturday May 19 will be hosted by the 2011 series winner, Jo Wheatley, pictured.
Amateur and professional bakers are invited to show off their culinary skills by entering the bake day competition.
The finals in each category will be judged on the day and include: chocolate cake, meringues, light fruitcake, dark fruitcake, fruit pie, cold savoury pie, fruit jam preserve and chutney.
For under-16s there will be a decorated cupcake competition in two age group categories, and there will also be a Dorset Apple Cake competition for professional bakers.
Lastly, there will be a show stopper cake which is judged solely on the decoration, so it can be non-edible.
For more information on the competition, pick up an application form from the Captain’s Club Hotel, or send an SAE to: Miss Ingredient, 3 Creedy Drive, Christchurch, BH23 1HU.
