BOURNEMOUTH Pier Approach’s newest attraction was officially launched by the Mayor of Bournemouth yesterday.
The Wave Swinger, a modern take on the traditional “chair-o-plane”, was brought in by S&D Leisure, which also operated the Bourne-mouth Balloon and the town’s Gol-den Carousel, amongst other fun amusements.
It was built to the specifications of S& D Leisure by Lamborghini Rides, in Northern Italy, and transported to Bournemouth beach.
Children eagerly queued to have a go, but first to take a seat was the mayor of Bournemouth, Cllr Chris Rochester, and his wife, Valerie.
He said: “The Wave Swinger is brand new and S&D Leisure have gone out of their way to bring this to Bournemouth.
“This 48-seater ride has been engineered by Lamborghini Rides and it is a great improvement on the Wave Swinger that we had last year.
“From an old swinger to a new swinger, have a great time.”
As well as spinning at speed to make the chairs swing, the ride also oscillates to accentuate the feeling of weightlessness.
Stanley Reeves, managing director of S&D Leisure, said: “The Wave Swinger has been completely custom-built to our own specifications – it’s even decorated with scenes of Bournemouth.
“It’s been a race to get it here for Easter, but we’re convinced it will be an invaluable addition to the town’s facilities. Attractions like this will never go out of fashion.”
Some children and their families who are supported by Julia’s House were also invited for the first spin.
