AN INQUEST into the death of Hamworthy pensioner Patricia Mills, who was found dead in Rockley Lake, will be opened and adjourned next week.

The vulnerable 80-year-old was last seen alive at her Turlin Moor home on Tuesday lunchtime.

Volunteer search and rescue workers, supported by the police helicopter, found her body close to a popular fishing spot 24 hours later.

Dorset Police say her death is not being treated as suspicious.

Shocked neighbours spoke to the Daily Echo about a “nice woman” whose health had appeared to decline in recent years.

And the Rev Stuart Goddard, of Hamworthy’s St Michael’s Church said: “My heart goes out to her family and friends at this time.”

He added: “I didn’t know this woman personally, but as a church in this community, we will pray for her family and for all of those who will be missing her.

“Until they know exactly what has happened it may be much harder for them to bear.”

According to police, Patricia – who had difficulty walking – left her home without her bus pass or any cash.

Before the pensioner’s body was discovered, around half-a-mile from her Russell Gardens home, PC Debbie Wilkie had described Patricia’s disappearance as “entirely out of character”.

A Dorset Police spokesman confirmed: “At around 2pm on Wednesday, Dorset Search and Rescue volunteers discovered the body of a woman in Rockley Lake, Hamworthy.

“The body was recovered from the water and ambulance staff confirmed the woman, believed to be 80-year-old Patricia Mills, was dead at the scene.

“The coroner is aware and next of kin have been notified.”
