A BOURNEMOUTH man is offering to transport floral tributes to Southampton on behalf of Daily Echo readers who want to commemorate those lost on board the Titanic nearly 100 years ago.
More than 32 memorial services, wreath-laying ceremonies and other events are taking place in the city to mark the centenary of the sinking of the White Star liner on the night of April 14-15, 1912.
Robert Wilson, of Boscombe, said: “Titanic was largely a Southampton crewed ship. Every street in Southampton had a bereavement and the disaster caused destitution to many families and shook the city to its very core.”
Mr Wilson said the tribute would be placed either in front of the Titanic Orchestra’s Memorial or on the Titanic Engineers’ Memorial. Anyone wanting him to take tributes to Southampton for Tuesday’s opening of the commemorations should leave them at the entrance to Bournemouth Town Hall or Poole Civic Offices before 5pm on Monday.
