ADVENTURER Ben Fogle is heading to Bournemouth in a bid to help keep its beaches “barefoot friendly”.
The environmentalist is backing a national Beach Rescue Project campaign by Barefoot Wine which kicks off on Saturday at Hengistbury Head, following a successful series of events.
Ben will be hosting the Bournemouth event alongside environmental charity Surfers Against Sewage, giving volunteers the chance to meet one of the UK’s most ardent supporters of the British seaside.
He said: “I’m a huge lover of Britain’s coastline, so when I was asked to be the ambassador for the Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project, I jumped at the chance.
“We have beautiful beaches and during this campaign I’ll be asking people to come down to one of our events and keep their beach ‘barefoot friendly’.”
The 2011 project saw more than 1,100 volunteers remove 2.5 tonnes of litter from the UK’s coastline, and 2012’s events aim to encourage more people to keep the UK’s beaches barefoot friendly.
Volunteers will spend an afternoon collecting litter. For details visit beachrescue2012uk.com
