CHILDREN found chocolate galore at an Easter Egg hunt for a good cause.

More than 250 youngsters had fun following clues and looking out for bunnies, flowers and butterfly signs dotted around the Willow Walk, next to Waitrose, to win tasty treats.

The TeamMAX charity fundraiser, which made £440 for Epilepsy Action, was particularly poignant for organiser Gail Miller, who set up the charity in memory of her son Max.

An epilepsy sufferer, he died last July at the age of 22 months.

But this time last year, he was enjoying Easter with his family.

Gail, from Corfe Mullen, said: “We also ran a quiz about Epilepsy Action, its colours and also about Max.

“We had a photo of him dressed up as an Easter chick. He would have been very upset with me for showing that when he was older.

“Last Easter we went to Kingston Lacy with my nephews for a day out. This year has been very different.”

TeamMAX have passed the £22,000 mark towards their original £40,000 fundraising target.

Gail says they are now hoping to make £35,000 and then focus on getting a specialist children’s Epilepsy nurse at Poole Hospital.

“We want to ensure we get that secured for the hospital,” Gail said.

“You have diabetes nurses for children, and the benefits of a specialist are well known, but we don’t have one in Dorset.

“That was really highlighted with Max, because although it would not have changed events, it would have been a great help.”

Around 2,000 children in the county have epilepsy, and families need help and advice, Gail says.

Seven TeamMAX supporters leave for a trek around the Grand Canyon on May 12.
