ROCK stars of the future have been called up for an audition for a new college course in Bournemouth.

Bournemouth’s Academy of Contemporary Music, which recently opened on Wimborne Road, Kinson, offers young musicians aged 16-18 the opportunity to study for a Diploma in Music Performance.

Led by Rob Birchall, the academy’s principal, a class of musical pupils will learn all the necessary skills to make it in the music business. They will also have opportunities to learn from those who’ve made it already.

Level 42, You Me at Six, Derek Nash from Jools Holland and His Rhythm and Blues Orchestra and many more are all patrons of the Academy of Contemporary Music.

The credentials are there, says Rob, for the first class of 2012 to follow in their successful path.

Rob Birchall said: “We are looking for enthusiastic music-minded young people.

“I think that it is far more important to have enthusiasm than to have formal grades and I’m prepared to work with people who are interested in music and can prove it.

“The people who come here really will be the best of the best.

“What this brings to the table is that if you are one of those people that have never had any formal training but are keen and are good at what they do, then we want to hear from them.”

But first they have to audition for one of 40 places on offer in front of a panel of music industry experts, including Mark De-Lisser, a professional vocal coach who works on BBC’s The Voice.

The auditions take place on Sunday April 22. However, anyone hoping to try out will need to register on the ACM’s website first.
