A GROUP of 40 women attended a pamper evening at the Pilot pub on Canford Heath to help repair a damaged roof in Romania.
Volunteers from the Poole branch of The Biggin Hill Romania Group (BHRG) visited the country just before Christmas to distribute presents to children. They found a family living in a single room house in Comanesti.
They managed to pull plastic sheeting and a tarpaulin over the roof, probably saving it from total collapse when temperatures subsequently dropped to minus 35C with heavy snowfall.
Alley Hydes, who organised the fundraising, said: “The circumstances we witnessed were impossible to ignore. There were eight children and their parents living in those conditions and we all felt we had to do something.”
The event, which included nail painting, reflexology, head massage, the sale of jewellery and handbags and a raffle, raised a total of £530.
