DORSET star Georgia Hall claimed another Curtis Cup scalp on her way to the French Under-21 Championship semi-finals at Saint-Cloud Golf Club.

Hall, who was recently snubbed for the British and Ireland team, knocked out Holly Clyburn in the matchplay quarter-finals in Paris.

The 15-year-old Remedy Oak player had a point to prove to the Curtis Cup selectors after being named as only a second reserve for the match against the Americans at Nairn in June.

Hall, who also beat team member Amy Boulden in last month’s trials, overcame 21-year-old Clyburn at the 19th hole with both players under par.

“I saw this as a chance to prove that I’m a better player than Holly,” explained Hall. “It was an evenly-contested match throughout but I showed I could handle the pressure better.”

One down going up the last, Hall held a 20-footer for birdie to force sudden-death.

Both girls had similar length putts at the first extra hole with Hall sinking her’s first, while Curtis Cup team member Clyburn buckled under the pressure.

In the semi-final, Hall lost 3 and 2 to home favourite Celine Boutier who went on to beat another Curtis Cup player Bronte Law in the final (1 up).

On her way to the last four, Hall beat German and Danish opposition in an event which attracts the cream of Europe.

To reach the matchplay phase, Hall finished an impressive third in the strokeplay qualifier with a five-under-par total (70 and 67).

In the space of five days, Hall played eight rounds (including practice).

She was also part of the Vilmorin Cup winning team that included Meghan MacLaren and Emily Taylor.

Hall’s father Wayne, meanwhile, paid tribute to his daughter’s coach Martin Cummins.

“Martin is a top-notch coach who we respect massively,” said Wayne. “His help has be invaluable and is a key factor in Georgia’s continued success.”
