JUST seven months after Bournemouth and Poole’s new Skills and Learning Service merged, it has been rated good by Ofsted.

A team of six inspectors toured the joint adult learning service of both boroughs in February. When last inspected in 2008 the two separate services were both rated satisfactory overall.

“Skills and Learning provides good value for money,” said the inspectors’ report. “It has successfully reorganised and rationalised two services into one effective functional entity.”

After scrutinising 45 teaching sessions, the quality of teaching and learning was marked good and broad and inclusive partnership working was identified as a strong feature.

“This is a fantastic outcome for the Skills & Learning Service,” said Cllr Nicole Greene, cabinet portfolio holder for education and children’s services, Bournemouth Borough Council.”

Cllr Judy Butt, cabinet portfolio holder for public engagement and participation, Borough of Poole said: “Congratulations must go to the staff who have worked tirelessly to ensure the merger happened with as little disruption as possible.”
