A POOLE doctor attempting to paddle a tough 100 marathons in 100 days reached Mudeford Quay this week.

Martin Lee, a 32-year-old consultant rheumatologist at the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases in Bath, is trying to circumnavigate the UK in his kayak.

The doctor, who grew up in Poole, will paddle an astonishing 2,600 miles in his bid to raise £100,000 for the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS).

He was greeted by a crowd of supporters including members of the charity and representatives of Christchurch Lions Club and friends and family.

And Martin’s auntie Maureen, who is the inspiration for his challenge, was also there to see him arrive at the quay.

The doctor is aiming to arrive back in London by the end of July 2012.

He said: “My aunt has been an inspiration to me and is also the reason I started studying medicine, knowing that I wanted to specialise in rheumatology.

“NRAS is a wonderful charity that provides help and support for people living with rheumatoid arthritis and their carers.
