Bournemouth will get Town Rangers, better signage for shops and a new marketing scheme after traders voted in favour of two Business Improvement Districts this morning.
The coastal BID was passed with 323 votes in total with 237 in favour.
The town centre BID was passed with 200 votes in total and 166 in favour.
Des Simmons, chair of the Coastal BID, said: "This is the starting block of a lot of hard work but there are exciting times ahead. The BIDs put power back in the hands of local businesses."
Business Improvement Districts are funded by a levy on businesses within the district. That money is then spent on measures to improve the area.
In Bournemouth that will include Town Rangers, better signage to shops and car parks and a new website to market the town. The BIDs will also host events and festivals and produce marketing materials to encourage visitors to the town.
