A DORSET charity’s specialist school for children and young people will be hosting an open day next Thursday.
The Wessex Autistic Society’s Portfield School in Christchurch, which provides specialist education and care for day and residential students aged 3-19 on the autistic spectrum, will open on Thursday April 19 from 10am – 1pm.
The open day is aimed at giving an insight to prospective parents and carers interested in finding out how the school can support their child’s needs.
Andrew Thomas, Director of School Services, said: “Our Open Morning is a unique opportunity to tour Portfield’s purpose-built, state-of-the-art facilities on Parley Lane, to meet members of staff and gain a valuable insight into the school’s approach to learning.
“Members of teaching staff as well as our specialist support team will be on hand to provide an insight into how the team at Portfield work together to develop communication skills, respond to behavioural, health and medical needs, as well as helping students to manage their sensory experience.
“The Society’s Information and Advice Team will also be available to provide guidance on issues relating to autism and associated difficulties.”
Places are limited for the open morning and must be reserved by contacting the school.
