THESE three women will be among thousands descending on Poole Park in June to take part in Race for Life.

Katie Sutton, 25, of Wallisdown, will be pushing wheelchair-bound mum Peggy Sutton along the 5km route to raise money for Cancer Research UK – a cause very close to their hearts.

Katie’s father Chris, 58, was diagnosed with throat and neck cancer at the start of June 2011 and has been through a gruelling battle over the last year.

He underwent a course of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, which saw him hospitalised three times due to the intensity of the treatment.

In January, Katie’s family received the ‘all clear’ for Chris’ throat but doctors said they were still concerned about his neck.

Last month he underwent a neck dissection operation to remove the many lymph nodes from his neck and he will have to receive further surgery this month to remove more.

Peggy, 58, of Wimborne Road in Ferndown, was paralysed in a car accident four years ago after suffering a broken neck.

Katie said: “It is a year since we found out Dad had cancer and he has been through so much treatment.

“It has been really hard and we want to stop other people having to go through what we are going through and hopefully the money we will raise will also help him.

“As much as I have been there to support Mum and Dad, you cannot do much to help and I wish I could do more. That’s why we decided to take part in Race for Life.”

Katie will be joined by best friend Anna Belk, 25, of Ferndown, for the Race for Life event at Poole Park on Sunday June 24.
