DORSET residents hoping to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee with a street party have just one week left to submit their applications for road closures.
The 60th anniversary of the Queen’s coronation will be formally marked with an extended Bank Holiday weekend from June 2 to 5 and anyone planning a celebratory party that requires a road to be closed needs to inform the council by Friday.
So far there have been 45 applications for street parties across the county council area, excluding Weymouth and Portland and Christchurch, and more are expected.
Peter Finney, county council cabinet member for highways, said: “We are keen to encourage as many people as we can to celebrate this special event.
“But we do need to know the numbers as soon as possible so that we know what we’re dealing with. We want to make sure all street parties happen without a hitch, so people can celebrate the Jubilee with as little hassle as possible.”
