Cold start to the morning, with strong bitter winds but few miles into the marathon soon picked up a steady pace. No signs of problems from the shin and calf at this point.
Up to the 20th mile all was going strong when severe cramping taking over both thighs & the existing injury pain also set in. Meaning the next 6.2miles were a total different running experience.
No longer was I enjoying the experience of the marathon and the amazing sites of Paris, now I was battling the constant pain shooting up and down my legs with every stride.
With the finish line in sight never have I felt sheer relief like it. Marathon 1 complete!
With luxuries no longer available our retreat was the petrol station car park which offered me a much needed hot shower and a park up.
Now, on the road heading for Switzerland, for the start of day 2.
