A GENTLEMAN poet who charmed the nation on The Undateables is still looking for love.
Shaine Singer starred in the second episode of the Channel 4 show about people with challenging conditions.
The 31-year-old from Bournemouth has learning difficulties and told the Echo: “I was very ecstatic and excited about taking part – it was like static electricity.”
The audience saw Shaine meeting Jackie at a speed dating event for people with learning difficulties.
He took her out twice and was won over by her “grace and elegance” and “mesmerised” by her eyes – but she just wanted to be friends.
However Shaine’s gentle demeanour and attempts to ‘woo’ her with love poems and chocolate won over the audience.
Shaine, who was filmed at Bournemouth Pier and Starz in Charminster, has had lots of Facebook messages and mass praise on sites like Twitter.
And he was featured in the Radio Times and on the TV show This Morning.
“The show has done so well, lots of people are talking about it – it’s just magical,” said Shaine.
He wrote Jackie eight poems, and told her by text that he loved her – before their first date.
“Maybe I shouldn’t have rushed in feet first,” he said.
“If I could reverse the polarity of the neutron flow, like Doctor Who always says, and go back in history, I think I would be a lot cooler.”
The show has faced some criticism for allegedly demeaning the participants, who included people with facial disfigurements or conditions like Tourettes.
Shaine said the title “wasn’t cool”. But taking part helped his confidence and fear of rejection.
He said: “I wanted to try and inspire people as well, so they would try and reach their goals in life.”
He “absolutely” thinks the show achieved that end and he would love to appear in any follow up.
Shaine’s ideal date would be dinner and a waltz with actress Kate Beckinsale or Doctor Who assistant Karen Gillan – though he has not been out with a lady since filming came to an end in January.
But he hopes for more dates with the Hampshire section of the specialist London-based agency Stars In The Sky.
