MORE than 100 students from seven Poole schools and The College, were set the challenge of devising a coin-sorting machine.
The Rotary Technology Tournament at Corfe Hills School was entered by 29 teams and marks were awarded for the design portfolio as well as the completed design.
Organised by a committee from the three Poole Rotary Clubs, it was also entered by a team of teachers from three of the schools.
Presenting the Parkeon Cup to the winners of the advanced task, Poole Grammar School A1, Owen Griffith, managing director of engineering group Parkeon praised the students’ diligent application.
Paul Collins, operations director of Westover Jaguar, rewarded the winning team with a trip to the Jaguar factory, then presented the Westover Trophy for the intermediate task to Canford School L1.
The Rotary Junior Cup, donated by Marjorie Burnett Ltd, was presented by Rotary District Governor Caroline Millman to Canford School B1.
“It has been such a success that we will be organising another Rotary Technology Tournament in Poole on Thursday, March 7 2013, and we look forward to seeing many of you then,” said Alex Wells, organising committee member.
