EIGHT women who were sexually assaulted by former Bournemouth cabbie John Worboys are suing him and his vehicle insurers at the High Court.
The eight victims, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, are arguing that John Worboys, who was jailed indefinitely in 2009, used his taxi to assault them. The hearing will decide if the insurer is liable for damages.
Worboys, 54, was sentenced at Croydon Crown Court after being found guilty of drugging and assaulting women while working as a licensed driver.
This landmark case will rule whether the unnamed motor insurance company must pay damages because Worboys’ crimes were committed in his insured taxi.
Each of the claimants was a passenger of the ‘black cab rapist’ in 2007 or 2008.
Worboys’ insurers contest the action.
