West Moors residents will soon have 32 acres of recreation land to enjoy.
East Dorset District Council has bought Woolslope Farm, an area of grassland south of West Moors, and will soon open it up to the public and create an all-weather footpath.
The land, which is adjacent to Uddens Water and north of the A31, has been paid for using the Interim Planning Framework.
Housing developers pay into this when building a property near a heathland Site of Special Scientific Interest.
Previously owned by Heron Homes, the land is divided into three fields and used for grazing.
Future projects include installing benches and picnic areas.
